ABOUT US
The Atticus Tennis Club was founded on 27-12-1927 and its headquarters were in Athens, at 1 Plutarchou Street, Kolonaki.Since 1928 its athletes have been successfully participating in Panhellenic Games. In the pre-war years, the Club enjoyed great glory and became a well-known sports and entertainment centre of the capital. Members, athletes of the Club stood out with their remarkable performances in Tennis and Bridge. In 1940, the country entered the ravages of World War II and the Club's operation was halted. After liberation, the Club, with the help and contributions of its members, restores the damage and proposals and plans for expansion of the facilities begin. When the British Embassy purchased the property, the AOA is forced to look for another site to establish itself. After fruitless searches within the city of Athens, a free - almost ready space in Filothei was found for the good fortune of the Group. Thus, in 1954, negotiations were completed and work began on the establishment of the Club, which was renamed A.O.A. Filothei. The first years are difficult. The love and efforts of the Members contribute to the development of the Club. In 1970, on the initiative of the then members of the Board of Directors, Mr. Phoebus Polychroniadis and Mr. Gregory Zitridis, the first free tennis school in Greece was founded, in order to make the sport accessible and popular to as many Greek children as possible, regardless of their financial and social status.
